SEMAGROW (Data intensive techniques to boost the real-time performance of global agricultural data infrastructures).
Objective: SemaGrow will (a) develop scalable and robust semantic storage and indexing algorithms that can take advantage of resource naming conventions and other natural groupings of URIs to compress data source annotations about extremely large datasets; (b) develop query decomposition, source selection, and distributed querying methods that take advantage of such algorithms to implement a scalable and robust infrastructure for data service federation; and (c) rigorously test its components and overall architecture over real, complex, interconnected datasets comprising data and document collections, sensor data, and GIS data.

** SYNC3 (Synergetic Content Creation and Communication).
Objective: SYNC3 developed an intelligent framework for making more accessible the vast quantity of user comments on news issues. The project attempted to structure the part of blogsphere that refers to running news stories, rendering it accessible, manageable and re-usable. The immediate target of SYNC3 was the news industry and social networks, but domains like commerce, tourism, e-science and business intelligence are likely to benefit from the resulting technology.

** PRONTO (Event Recognition for Intelligent Resource Management).
Objective: PRONTO offered real-time, knowledge-led support for decision-makers in sectors characterised by large volumes of multi-source, multi-format data. The project introduced a highly synergetic approach to intelligent resource management by combining the research areas of information extraction from sensor data, information extraction from audio and text, and event recognition. This approach is applicable to a wide range of domains, where resource management is needed, and the PRONTO technology was tested in two such domains: emergency rescue operations and city transport management.

** PASCAL2 (Pattern Analysis, Statistical Modelling and Computational Learning)
Objective: PASCAL is a Network of Excellence funded by the European Union. It has established a distributed institute that brings together researchers and students across Europe, and is now reaching out to countries all over the world. PASCAL developed the expertise and scientific results that help create new technologies such as intelligent interfaces and adaptive cognitive systems. To achieve this, it supported and encouraged collaboration between experts in Machine Learning, Statistics and Optimization. It also promotes the use of machine learning in many relevant application domains.

** SERVIVE (SERVice Oriented Intelligent Value Adding nEtwork for Clothing-SMEs embarking in Mass-Customisation).
Objective: SERVIVE proposed the enlargement of the assortment of customizable clothing items currently on offer, the enhancement of all co-design aspects (functionality and fun) and the development and testing of a new production model based on decentralized networked SME cells. The Servive network did not only seamlessly link critical Mass-Customisation (MC) enabling services, but more important it adapted these services to the specific needs of well-defined target customer groups.

Objective: The CASAM project focused on facilitating the synergy of human and machine intelligence to significantly speed up the task of human-produced semantic annotation of multimedia content. INDIGO (Interaction with Personality and Dialogue enabled Robots).
Objective: INDIGO developed human-robot communication technology for intelligent mobile robots that operate and serve tasks in populated environments. In doing so, the project involved technologies from various sectors, and attempted to introduce advances in respective areas, i.e. natural language interaction, autonomous navigation, visual perception, dialogue systems, and virtual emotions. The project addressed human-robot communication from two sides: by enabling robots to correctly perceive and understand natural human behaviour and by making them act in ways that are familiar to humans.

Objective: BOEMIE advocated a synergistic approach that combines multimedia extraction and ontology evolution in a bootstrapping process involving, on the one hand, the continuous extraction of semantic information from multimedia content in order to populate and enrich the ontologies and, on the other hand, the deployment of these ontologies to enhance the robustness of the extraction system.

** SHARE (Mobile support for rescue forces, integrating multiple modes of interaction).
Objective: The SHARE project developed a Push-To-Share advanced mobile service that provided critical multimodal communication support for emergency teams during rescue operations. With the introduction of the new service, rescue operations benefit enormously from sophisticated multimodal interaction and on-line, on-site access to data services providing up-to-date operation status information, as well as details concerning aspects of the emergency, such as location and environment.

Web-C-Mine (Web Usage Mining from proxy/cache server logs).

CROSSMARC (Cross-lingual Multi-agent Retail Comparison).
