About Me

I am a tenured reasearcher (Grade C) at the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications of the National Center for Scientific Research (NCSR) “Demokritos”, in Athens, Greece. My research revolves around combinations of machine learning with knowledge representation and reasoning towards improving the transparency, robustness and trustworthiness of learning-based AI systems. I have a special interest in neuro-symbolic AI and logic-based learning.

I am a member of the Complex Event Recognition group (CER) at the SKEL AI lab. CER develops scalable temporal learning and reasoning techniques for making sense of dynamic, event-based data.

I have extensive experience in European research projects, having participated in several H2020 and Horizon Europe initiatives. I currently serve as technical manager of the EU-funded project EVENFLOW, where I coordinate research on trustworthy neuro-symbolic techniques for complex event forecasting.

I am a regular program committee member of leading AI conferences, such as IJCAI, ECAI, ECML/PKDD, ICLP, while past service includes conferences such as KR and AAMAS. I have organized the 1st International Joint Conference on Learning & Reasoning (IJCLR) and co-chaired the 30th Int. Conf. on Inductive Logic Programming.

I teach at the Artificial Intelligence MSc program organized by NCSR “Demokritos” and the University of Piraeus. I have supervised several BSc and MSc theses over the last few years.

I hold a BSc in mathematics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, an MSc in mathematical logic and the theory of computation from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and a PhD in machine learning, also from the univ. of Athens.
