Nikolaos Stamatopoulos

Dr. Nikolaos Stamatopoulos (http://users.iit.demokritos.gr/~nstam/) was born in 1984, in Athens, Greece. He received his Computer Science Diploma in 2006 and his Ph.D. degree in 2011, both from the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His Ph.D Thesis is on Optical Process and Analysis of Historical Documents. He is currently working at the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National Center for Scientific Research "Demokritos", Athens, Greece. His main research interests are in Image Processing and Document Image Analysis, Processing of Historical Documents, OCR and Pattern Recognition.


Dr. Basilis Gatos (http://users.iit.demokritos.gr/~bgat/) was born in 1967, in Athens, Greece. He received his Electrical Engineering Diploma in 1992 and his Ph.D. degree in 1998, both from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Democritus University of Thrace, Xanthi, Greece. His Ph.D. thesis is on Optical Character Recognition Techniques. In 1993 he was awarded a scholarship from the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications, NCSR "Demokritos", where he worked till 1996. From 1997 to 1998 he worked as a Software Engineer at Computer Logic S.A. From 1998 to 2001 he worked at Lambrakis Press Archives as a Director of the Research Division in the field of digital preservation of old newspapers. From 2001 to 2003 he worked at BSI S.A. as Managing Director of R&D Division in the field of document management and recognition. He is currently working as a Researcher at the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National Center for Scientific Research "Demokritos", Athens, Greece. His main research interests are in Image Processing and Document Image Analysis, OCR and Pattern Recognition. He has more than 110 publications in journals and international conference proceedings and has participated in several research programs funded by the European community. He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece, of the Editorial Board of the International Journal on Document Analysis and Recognition (IJDAR) and program committee member of several international Conferences and Workshops(e.g. ICDAR 2009, ICFHR 2010, ICDAR 2011, CBDAR 2011, AND 2011, International Workshop on Historical Document Imaging and Processing 2011). He will be the Conference co-chair at ICFHR 2014.



Dr. Georgios Louloudis (http://users.iit.demokritos.gr/~louloud/) was born in 1979 in Athens, Greece. He received his Bachelor in Informatics and Telecommunications (2000), his Master’s degree in Signal Processing for Telecommunications and Multimedia (2002) and his Ph.D. degree in Character Recognition of Historical Documents (2009) from the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Currently, he is working at the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National Center for Scientific Research "Demokritos", Athens, Greece at the field  of handwritten historical  document  image  processing  as a research associate and participates  at the  EU  funded project  IMPACT. His main research interests are in Pattern Recognition, Image Processing, Document Image Analysis, Processing of Historical Documents and OCR.



Dr. Umapada Pal (http://www.isical.ac.in/~umapada/) was born in 1964 in West Bengal, India. He received his Ph.D. in 1997 from Indian Statistical Institute. His PhD work was on the development of Printed Bangla OCR system. He did his Post Doctoral research at INRIA (Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique), France. From January 1997, he is a Faculty member of Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Unit of the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata and at present he is a Professor. His fields of research interest include Digital Document Processing, Optical Character Recognition, Video document analysis etc. He has published 212 research papers in various international journals, conference proceedings and edited volumes. Because of his significant impact in the Document Analysis research, in 2003 he received ‘ICDAR Outstanding Young Researcher Award” from International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR). In 2005-2006 Prof. Pal has received JSPS fellowship from Japan government. In 2008, 2011 and 2012, Prof. Pal received visiting fellowship from Spain, France and Australia government, respectively. He has many international collaborations with different countries like Australia, Canada, France, Japan, Norway, Singapore, Spain and Srilanka. Also he is co-supervising Ph.D. students of  different universities of  Australia, France, Norway Spain and Srilanka.
     Prof. Pal served as a Chair of many international events like International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR), International Conference on Frontiers of Handwritten Recognition (ICFHR), International Workshop on Document Analysis and Systems (DAS) etc. Prof.. Pal has been serving as a program committee member of many conferences including International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR), International Conference on Frontiers of Handwritten Recognition (ICFHR), International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR), International Workshop on Document Analysis and Systems (DAS) etc. 
He is the associate Editor of the journal of Electronic Letters on Computer Vision and Image Analysis (ELCVIA) and ACM Transactions of Asian Language Information Processing (ACM-TALIP). Also he has served as the guest editor of the special issue of  several journals like VIVEK, Electronic Letters on Computer Vision and Image Analysis (ELCVIA), International  Journal of Document Analysis and Recognition (IJDAR), etc. He is a life member of IUPRAI (Indian unit of IAPR) and senior life member of Computer Society of India.



Dr. Alireza Alaei has obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2011 from the University of Mysore, India. He received his B.E. degree in Computer Engineering (Software) and M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from Shahid Beheshti University, Tehran, Iran and University of Mysore, India in 1995 and 2007, respectively. He is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the LI Laboratory, Département Informatique Polytech, Université François Rabelais, Tours, France. He has published more than 20 research papers in international journals and conferences. His areas of interest are document image analysis and recognition, pattern recognition, image processing and machine learning.
